Improvement Idea #24: Business Central Meme Generator

Improvement Idea #24:

We love Business Central,

but we miss a Meme Generator.

Since Mark Brummel is splitting up the Base App, we sat also down behind our desks in the Unofficial Business Central Support Office, unplugged the phones and build a Meme Generator in AL.

The Project

The current status of the project is very fundamental. We used the basis API and build some tables and pages around it. It is on GitHub and others may come and build a role center or improve the flow of the creating meme process. This could be very well a dead-end road, but we doubt that.

Business Case & Limitations

In this first iteration we focused on the main business case, creating memes. We know the workflow is not perfect and there is a lot room for improvement, but it basically works.

You can only choose from the Top 100 Meme Templates and you can also only choose two Captions for an image.

The API lets you position the images, so an JavaScript Control Add In is possible as well.

This project might teach young professionals the usage of JSON APIs.

Step 1 – Download and Deploy the App

You can go to https://github.com/NotBCSupport/BCMemes and folk or download the Visual Studio Source Files and deploy it to your environment.

You can also download the ready to go Christmas Gift Release v1.0.0.0 for your Business Central Wave 2 Cloud Sandbox.

Step 2 – Open My Meme

Use Tell Me (Ctrl+Q) to locate “My Meme”. Then use the “Create new Meme” Action to create a new Meme.

Step 3 – Select Your Meme Template

You might switch to the “Tall Tiles” Mode.

Now comes the hard part! You have to choose a Template for your Meme and use the Action “Caption this meme”. If you‘re unfamiliar with Memes, use https://knowyourmeme.com to get to know them.

Step 4 – Caption your Meme

You can come up with a creative new Meme and hit “Make Meme”.

Congratulations! You’ve created your first Meme in Business Central.

Starting today there will be a competition on Twitter with the hashtag #BCALMeme. The person with the best meme will be chosen by us to be special thanked on the repo page on GitHub: https://github.com/NotBCSupport/BCMemes

Are you curious what we have planned for next year? Stay tuned!

Improvement Idea #23: Better Communication

Improvement Idea #23:

We love Business Central,

but would be nice if the partners would hear from Business Central staff more often what is going on. E.g. bi-weekly from a separated blog or twitter account. Especially the marking team shouldn‘t have access to that!

In times of rapid changes (currently the new System App and spitting up the Base App) a little more insight is absolutely mandatory.

The DynamicsNavDev-Yammer is great, but official announcement and updates are not very visible between the other issues.

Improvement Idea #20: Better Feedback possibilities

Improvement Idea #20:

We love Business Central and the current interaction,

but it would be nice to have better feedback possibilities.

We like to see quarterly surveys about product quality and future investments both for partners and customer.

Also it would be nice have ONE system to create support cases (currently separate for Cloud and OnPrem), event request, AL Language Extensions, documentation and translation defects and ideas.

Currently it all across different systems like support.microsoft.com, partner.microsoft.com, Office 365 Admin Center, ideas.dynamics.com and several github.com-Lists (AL Language Extensions, Event requests and several document sites) and so on. The feedback you get there and the interaction possibles vary a lot.

Improvement Idea #16: Where is the Dynamics 365 Customer Service, Field Service and Project Service Automation Integration?

Improvement Idea #16:

We love Dynamics 365 Sales Integration in Business Central,

except how Account and Contacts are connected after creation, this is messy and slow. But where is the Customer Service, Field Service and Project Service Automation Integration?

Dynamics NAV, sorry Business Central is a great Finance and SCM System and can easily create quotes and invoices, purchase from vendors and manage warehouses. But it is not so great managing cases and e-mails, resource planing, and being a mobile agent for people in the field.

The Dynamics CRM is great in that, but not in the Finance and SCM Part.

So why not get the best of both worlds?

Improvement Idea #15: More consistency for Sales and Purchase Documents

Improvement Idea #15:

We love Business Central,

but it would be nice if the Pages of Sales and Purchase Documents would be aligned, especially for the line actions. Although they have mostly the same actions, but the menu structure differs a lot. It would be nice, if they got aligned. Also don‘t forget to sync the Card and List Page actions.
