Improvement Idea #24:
We love Business Central,
but we miss a Meme Generator.
Since Mark Brummel is splitting up the Base App, we sat also down behind our desks in the Unofficial Business Central Support Office, unplugged the phones and build a Meme Generator in AL.
The Project
The current status of the project is very fundamental. We used the basis API and build some tables and pages around it. It is on GitHub and others may come and build a role center or improve the flow of the creating meme process. This could be very well a dead-end road, but we doubt that.
Business Case & Limitations
In this first iteration we focused on the main business case, creating memes. We know the workflow is not perfect and there is a lot room for improvement, but it basically works.
You can only choose from the Top 100 Meme Templates and you can also only choose two Captions for an image.
The API lets you position the images, so an JavaScript Control Add In is possible as well.
This project might teach young professionals the usage of JSON APIs.
Step 1 – Download and Deploy the App
You can go to https://github.com/NotBCSupport/BCMemes and folk or download the Visual Studio Source Files and deploy it to your environment.
You can also download the ready to go Christmas Gift Release v1.0.0.0 for your Business Central Wave 2 Cloud Sandbox.
Step 2 – Open My Meme
Use Tell Me (Ctrl+Q) to locate “My Meme”. Then use the “Create new Meme” Action to create a new Meme.

Step 3 – Select Your Meme Template
You might switch to the “Tall Tiles” Mode.

Now comes the hard part! You have to choose a Template for your Meme and use the Action “Caption this meme”. If you‘re unfamiliar with Memes, use https://knowyourmeme.com to get to know them.

Step 4 – Caption your Meme
You can come up with a creative new Meme and hit “Make Meme”.

Congratulations! You’ve created your first Meme in Business Central.

Starting today there will be a competition on Twitter with the hashtag #BCALMeme. The person with the best meme will be chosen by us to be special thanked on the repo page on GitHub: https://github.com/NotBCSupport/BCMemes

Are you curious what we have planned for next year? Stay tuned!
